Dr. Fred Apple

Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute (HHRI) investigator Fred Apple, PhD, DABCC, has been invited to be a Visiting Professor and Lecturer at Sant Pau Hospital De La Santa Creu, Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (Spain) for the first Trimester of 2019. His host will be Jordi Ordonez-Llanos, MD, PhD, Senior Consultant, Hospital de Sant Pau and Professor Clinical Biochemistry, Universitat Autònoma.

During his time in Barcelona, Dr. Apple will be participating in conferences and scientific sessions addressed to their department’s medical staff, with particular emphasis on medical students, residents and fellows education in clinical chemistry and toxicology.

In addition, Drs. Ordonez-Llanos and Apple are organizing a clinical research study on the role of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin I and T testing in patients presenting the emergency departments for the early rule out and rule in of type 2 myocardial infarction, along with assessing 30-day safety outcomes in a multi-hospital (3 to 5 cities) enrollment. The research in Spain will be beneficial to HHRI, in that the findings from this European clinical study will be compared to the recent clinicaltrials.gov trial (CONTRAST) that Dr. Apple’s ‘Cardiac Biomarkers Trials Laboratory’ just completed patent enrollment on in Minneapolis.
